Simon Cooper is a Sydney based artist working with Printmaking and Drawing. His work is held in public collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, and the Seoul Metropolitan Museum of Art, South Korea. Simon Cooper has taught printmaking with a range of instituions in Australia including Victorian College of the Arts Melbourne and the National Art School, Sydney where he was head of Printmaking for several years and is currently the Head of Academic Studies. 'My work is largely concerned with the subjective dimension of memory and its ultimate degradation. Working principally with the still life motif, I am attempting to depart from the neutral premise of the still life, in favour of a more subjective proposition: encouraging a personalised ‘poetic’ interpretation of the images and the objects depicted within them.' Simon Cooper has staged more than 10 solo exhibitions in both Melbourne and Sydney and he has also been involved with over 40 group exhibitions.
