Peter Churcher

Australian painter

(b. 1964, Brisbane, Qld)

Peter Churcher trained as a classical pianist turning to painting in his mid 20s. He has since become well known for his strong portraits and figure studies which range from individual portraiture to quietly dramatic scenes in the tradition of the great international figurative masters. In 2002 Peter Churcher was an Australian War Memorial (AWM) artist with the Australian Navy throughout the Persian Gulf, producing hundreds of drawings and paintings shown in AWM and in private exhibitions. He held 9 solo exhibitions mainly with Australian galleries. Peter Churcher has also appeared in 30 group shows including the Moet and Chandon 1992; On the Road, The Car in Australian Art, Heide 1999;and The Archibald prize (10 times). He now lives in Barcelona, Spain.
