Graeme Drendel

Graeme Drendel Australian painter, printmaker

(b. 1953, Ouyen, Vic)

Isolation and a sense of dislocation, figure in Graeme Drendel’s paintings of people caught in static poses- as in those critic Christopher Heathcote described as ‘like an idealistic group of people setting out for a strange land where they build a better society’. Graeme Drendel has held 15 solo exhibitions mainly at Australian Galleries Melbourne and Sydney. His work has also been included in more than 30 group exhibitions 1984-2006 including the Alice Prize 1985, 1986; Sulman Prize 2002; Conrad Jupiter’s Art Prize 200,2002. While well known for his painting, he has also been a prolific printmaker.
