Cristina Popovici studied a Bachelor of Fine Arts - Painting at the Academy of Visual Arts, Cluj, Romania and graduated in 1995. She exhibited regularly from 1989 in either solo or group exhibitions and from 1994 to 1997 she exhibited in Berlin, where the Marianne Westerheide Gallery represented her.
In January 2000, Christina moved with her family to New Zealand, and lived and worked for 4 years in Christchurch before moving to Auckland. Christina spent 9 years in New Zealand and during this time her art made an impact on the local scene, and she was dubbed one of the most daring abstract expressionists of the country. Her work is admired by a many followers and recognitions include winning the Coca Art Award 2003 and finalist of the Wallace Art Award competition.
