Australian printmaker

Barbie Kjar is a Tasmanian printmaker with a distinctive style and a powerful narrative, establishing a national and international reputation as one of the finest contemporary printmakers in Australia. Milking cows at 17 and teaching secondary school English at 21, Barbie Kjar was determined to become an artist and has since travelled widely, showing her work around the world. She has completed a Master of Fine Art at RMIT, Melbourne and a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Education, University of Tasmania, Hobart. She has held residencies in Barcelona, Havana, San Francisco, Mexico City and Tokyo. Since making printmaking her life in 1986, she has held 34 solo exhibitions in Australia and more recently in Barcelona and Tokyo. Barbie Kjar has also been included in group exhibitions in Australia, China, Korea, Siberia, France, Canada, USA and Japan.
