Alexi Keywan is a graduate of the National Art School in Sydney and has a Master of Fine Art printmaking. Alexi’s work is highly distinctive and her drawings are exquisitely detailed, almost photographic in nature: “A natural inclination to contemplate the built environment that surrounds me, from the perspective of external observer, both inspires and informs my work. My interest is in the nature of space, form and symbol in the urban environment and how it can affect and reflect our psychic landscape.” Alexi Keywan works with an acutely reduced palette, which is often completely monochromatic. She says this contributes to the graphic impact and the directness of the work, whilst referencing the influence of film and photography: “Often focusing on fragments and peripheral glimpses from the city’s landscape, my work evolves as unfinished inventories of the urban experience.”
